What is yoga?

Yoga is an ancient form of philosophy that encourages the practitioners to energize their physical, mental and spiritual states for overall well being. It means that to lead a happy and prosperous life, people must give exercise to mind and body. This type of philosophy is very relevant to the modern day world where people are caught up in the survival dog race and yoga offers the directions for self development. There are many types and variations of yoga but all conform to the basic philosophy of enlivenment of life.

Yoga asanas are designed in such a way that the practitioner has enough time to understand and enjoy each step, also experiencing the benefits of the regimen. The courses are also easy paced and can be suited to the schedule of the practitioner. If the practitioners are uncomfortable doing any of the asanas, they need not continue with it. The experience of yoga is supposed to be enjoyable and not otherwise. Every practitioner can have a one on one discussion with the instructors to not only get guidance but also to help design specialized regimen as per requirements.

Yogasanas include breathing exercises, body postures, meditation and relaxation. Pure form of yoga does not encourage rigorous and sweat inducing exercises. The method is to follow a regimen that gradually increases the practitioner’s tolerance and eventually reach the optimal level. If the practitioner masters this course, the end results are permanent. Body postures are designed to exercise and stimulate every part of the body and eventually attain the optimal contour. Day to day results are not measured and the duration of the course is not subject to time restrictions. Some people attain the desired results sooner than others but pure yoga is designed to ensure results to every practitioner.

Yoga instructors have to undergo certain standardization tests before they are allowed to train others. This is very essential because effective yoga practice can be completed only by proper guidance by the instructors. They will need to be able to inspire the practitioners to explore their own selves and realize the potential of asanas. Practitioners are advised to check the credentials of the instructors and also pay heed to their own comfort levels with the type of communication that happens between them and instructors. Practitioners are also not advised to choose classes that have lesser people. Personalized instructions from the trainers make for a more enjoyable experience.
