What is yoga and what is its relevance in the modern day world?

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise regimen that was discovered and practiced by seers and sages of India. They found a great need to maintain good physical health along with sustained and prolonged spiritual and mental wellbeing. They realized the importance of mental state of health along with the necessity of physical health. Their greatest contribution is their realization of the interdependence of physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the individual. They were also able efficiently develop a discipline that successfully stimulated all these thee aspects and ensure the overall wellbeing of the individual and this discipline is called yoga. Modern interpretation and practice of yoga bestows greater relevance on the physical conditioning aspects of yoga and the other aspects are not given that much importance. There is no denying the fact that the physical exercises of yoga have their own benefits and advantages. They combine the strength and flexibility aspects of the exercises effectively to provide a complete whole body workout. There is no compromise on either the strength or the flexibility aspects and both are balanced adequately. What is yoga and what are its benefits?

Yoga is an ancient form of discipline that provides a complete workout to the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of an individual. His form of discipline has been followed by Indians from time immemorial and its benefits and advantages have been well documented and chronicled. For many centuries, the practice of yoga was restricted to the Indian subcontinent. It is only in the recent past that yoga spread to all parts of the world and it currently enjoys worldwide patronage and acceptance. The uniqueness of yoga lies in its benefits for all aspects of life elements.
